Noises You Don't Want to Hear and What They Could Mean

When you go to buy used cars, you'll have plenty of good options. But you'll want to know how to spot issues. There are many things a car can do to warn you that there is something wrong with it. The car can suddenly end up with strange smells coming from it, the car can also have a certain feeling that starts happening while you are driving it or it can start to make weird sounds. This article can help you decipher what some of the sounds it is making can indicate.

You hear a squeaking coming from the wheel area of the car

If you start to hear a high-pitched squeaking sound coming from the wheel area when you are driving the car, then it can mean that your brake pads are worn to the point where the brakes need to be replaced. If you continue to drive your car once you hear this sound, then the next sound you can end up hearing will be grinding. When it gets to this point you are putting yourself in a dangerous position and you are risking damage to the rotors, which can be a costlier repair.

You hear a squeaking sound coming from somewhere under the hood

If you hear a squeaking or squealing type of noise coming from somewhere under the hood, then it may mean that you have a worn belt or even a belt that is too loose. The main belt in your car is the serpentine belt and it goes around a lot of different wheels to control many parts of the car. However, there are also other belts as well. If you hear this type of sound coming from the motor section of the car then it warrants a trip to the mechanic so they can determine the problem and take care of it for you.

You hear a squealing sound when you go to turn the car

If you hear a squealing noise when you go to turn the car, it indicates that there is an issue with your power steering. It could just be that you are low on power steering fluid, so making sure it has the right amount of fluid is the best place to start. If the fluid is fine, or you fill it to the correct level and the noise continues, then it may mean that the power steering pump is going out or there is another issue going on with your power steering unit, so you should take the car in to the mechanic where they will determine the cause and fix it.
